CF Benchmarks brings Wall Street pricing infrastructure onchain, including data used by BlackRock

CF Benchmarks, whose pricing indices underpin BlackRock’s bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) and CME Group’s crypto futures, is bringing its market data to blockchain networks as more financial firms look to offer traditional investment products through decentralized finance (DeFi).

The company, which is owned by Kraken parent Payward, has introduced CFB Oracle, a service that gives blockchain applications access to its benchmarks for cryptocurrencies, stocks, bonds, commodities and currencies.

The idea is to make the same pricing infrastructure used by major financial institutions available to developers building investment products on blockchains.

For example, a blockchain-based fund holding tokenized stocks would need reliable prices to calculate the value of its portfolio. A lending platform accepting tokenized bonds as collateral would need that data to determine how much users can borrow and when positions should be liquidated.

CF Benchmarks already provides this type of pricing data to traditional financial markets. Its indices are used by products representing more than $120 billion in assets, according to the company.
